For the past 23 years Winter Park has been inhabited by tax payers that have enjoyed our quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Now a 70 unit apartment complex is being proposed at the top of Beech Street. This means another potential 140+ residents that will not pay taxes, but will consume resources, putting further strain on an already stretched-thin town.
While the need for housing is recognized, the area that is being proposed is mainly wetlands. The ultimate goal of opposing the complex is to save the wetlands, and preserve them as protected lands. These wetlands provide habitat for a variety of wildlife that
As shown in the picture to the right, depicted in red stripes, there are two entrances being proposed on Beech Street. The secondary entrance is a requirement of the town in order to comply with Codes and Regulations. The purpose of this is to allow entrance for emergency personnel. The development would be responsible for snow removal of this secondary entrance, as well as the roads and walks within the development.
Per their website, the developer states the following: “the property is zoned Limited Residential. With the adoption of LD 2003 (found here), the 8.6 acre parcel would be eligible to develop 64 units. The additional portion of land currently owned by the town of Lisbon would allow for 74+ units. We would not be looking to create more than 70 units on this parcel.”
Additionally, Winter Street Housing Associates, LLC has proposed creating an office within the community building designated for town personnel. This has received Town Council approval.
